My whole life, I’ve felt like I was here to accomplish a mission. Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to figure out what that mission was.
In this poem called “B.I.B.L.E” from like 2002, I talk about being willing, but lost. Thankfully, I feel less lost today.
I’m finally fairly confident I’ve not only understood my Mission, but I’ve also understood the reason for having a mission at all.
Mission equals modus operandi. Stated another way, Mission drives the way we operate. It drives our goals, and the tactics we use to obtain those goals. It heavily influences how we think and who we are.
If you don’t have a mission, you likely haven’t figured out who you are, what your strengths and talents are, and what the community needs you to do. What need you fill.
I’ve been struggling with all of those questions. Am I a poet, musician, videographer, entrepreneur or what? I think I’m a conduit. All of those things flow through me.
But at what goal do I direct my skills? What does the community want me to do? Is that even a valid question? Figuring out what’s needed might be how we determine division of labor and value in the free market of skills.
Do you just do what you do, or do you use your skills to try to influence the culture around you? Culture is like a team, or a union. Inside of a culture are the rules, rewards and penalties of society. Counter cultures are there to steer those rules, rewards and penalties away from the original intent of the community.
In the last few days, I’ve realized this blog should be my thought pad. Of course I named it, “Thoughts from my Moonmind” so I don’t know why I’m just realizing that.
I’m going to keep posting thoughts and snippets and personal work here. But, I now know the reason…my mission here is to help me work out thoughts and concepts about creativity. The goal is to develop and sharpen my tools and faculties.
The goal is also to help me vent and grow. The FocusLBK Show is going to take front and center, but this space will be a refuge to recharge, heal and get better.
